Business Boutique: A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves

Business Boutique: A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves
Christy Wright
Ramsey Press, 2017

For as long as she can remember, Christy Wright has been exposed to women business owners, courtesy of her single mother who owned a bakery and worked hard to provide for the two of them. Early mornings and many afternoons after school spent in the bakery watching her mom shaped who Christy became and eventually ignited a passion in her heart for encouraging women who want to own a business but don’t know where to start, or who have taken those first steps but aren’t sure where they are headed.

The Business Boutique walks you through a step by step method of building a basic business plan to give your business a solid foundation no matter what stage it is in. She shares practical tips in easy to understand language and so many encouraging stories from real women who have already been there. You will finish this book feeling motivated, inspired, and confident.

I love the friendly, conversational tone of this book. It really doesn’t read like a how to manual, even though it walks you through the steps to making a good business plan and how to manage your time, brain power, and resources. Christy Wright has such an encouraging, entertaining voice that uplifts and speaks in the relational way that women really respond to. And I love the title! The word ‘boutique’ tells you from the very beginning that this books is written by a woman for women and the message inside is compelling, or at least it was for me.

Along with the book, I have also been listening to the Business Boutique podcast. If you hate to read or are unable to to purchase the book for whatever reason, the podcast is a pretty decent substitute. The first half is spent going over sections of the material from the book, and in the second half Christy interviews successful guests who are not all included in the book and shares success stories from women who have already started their businesses. My favorite episode so far has been Episode Three because of her fascinating interview with Rabbi Daniel Lapin. I would love to have the opportunity to go to one of the live Business Boutique events one day, I think it would be incredibly educational and motivating!

If you are a woman who has a small business, or is trying kickstart one, give this book a read. And if you are a man who knows a woman like this, gift one to her (like my husband did for me!). It is full of helpful information, from identifying your passions and gifts to a run-down of some of the nuts and bolts of business, like taxes and paperwork.

  2. Thanks for sharing! I’ve never heard of this book, but I love reading personal/business development books. I just started my health coaching business a couple of years ago with no business background, so I’m learning as I go ; )

  3. I hadn’t heard of this book before; I’m definitely going to check it out! I also love listening to podcasts and audiobooks – they accompany all my walks with my dog:) I’m looking forward to downloading Business Boutique as well. Thanks for the suggestions!
