Skinny Vanilla Chai Latte

This dreary, cold January weather has got me craving all the hot drinks. I love a good warm beverage, but the thing I don’t like is that a lot of them are loaded with sugar and calories. Since I try not to drink my calories, this poses a problem – a problem which I undertook to solve with a skinny version of a popular winter drink. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Skinny Vanilla Chai Latte.

Now, you’re not drinking water, so there are some calories. My best estimate is about 180 calories for a two cup (grande sized) serving, which I feel like is an acceptable amount when measured against the comfort drinking it brings on a cold afternoon. The other thing I do with this latte is use honey instead of sugar. I love the way the extra rich flavor of honey complements the vanilla and the spices in the tea so much better than plain old sugar. But if you are in the mood for a sweeter drink, definitely check out this Almond White Hot Chocolate.

My favorite brand of tea to use for this is Bigelow Vanilla Chai Black Tea. They offer the perfect balance of flavor and affordability, plus I love that they are a family owned company. And their barcode game is seriously on point. It’s all in the details, am I right?

Now, I’m sure it will shock none of you to learn that my favorite time to enjoy a Skinny Vanilla Chai Latte is while I’m reading a good book, so I decided to go the extra mile and also give you a few winter reading suggestions to complement your hot beverage. Some of my best cold weather recommendations are:

Recipe Notes

***Edit*** Since I published this recipe I learned a trick to make this latte even smoother - put the spices in first thing while the tea steeps and then strain the whole thing through a coffee filter to remove the spices.

  1. I’m with you about the Bigelow Vanilla Chai Black Tea. I have a box on my counter right now! I’ll be making this as soon! I would love to settle down with a mug of this and a book!

  2. I love chai lattes and one of the reasons I don’t drink it is because of the calories! But this skinny version I definitely need to make!!
