What I’m Loving Lately – January 2018

Hi friends!

I hope 2018 is treating you well – so far its been very busy for me! But in the midst of the busyness I wanted to stop for just a minute and share five things that I’ve been loving lately, things that are bringing a little happy into my life and keeping me sane. Ish. Sane-ish. It’s all relative.

Following hashtags on Instagram

When I heard about this new feature I thought ‘what’s the big deal?’ But I decided to try it just for fun, and I love it! It makes it so easy to see things you are interested in because they pop right up in your feed without having to search for them. Right now I’m following #christianfiction (because I mostly review Christian fiction), #cakestagram (because I love cake), and #readeatrepeat (to see when someone else uses ‘my’ hashtag). I’ll probably add more, but that’s where I’m at so far.

Long cozy sweater

A few weeks ago I was cruising through Walmart and as I strolled past the women’s clothing I saw cardigans on sale for $11. I bought a cream one and I wish I’d gotten it in at least one more color because I’ve been living in it. It’s cozy and long with pockets on the front and much better quality than you would expect from an $11 Wally-world sweater. I was planning to share a link so you guys could grab one for yourself but apparently this particular cardigan vanished into oblivion after I bought it because it is nowhere to be found online. Here’s a picture of me wearing it instead:

Here’s a good view of the sleeve in this back-to-school selfie, though the sweater is not the main focus of this picture 😉

Chai Latte + hot drinks in general

Because it’s winter and I’m perpetually cold. But hot drinks have a lot of calories, so I’ve been skinny-ing things up where I can and I posted about my favorite Skinny Vanilla Chai Latte last week ’cause it’s so yummy.

Skipping ads in podcasts

Y’all are going to think I’m stupid, but I’m going to share this anyway. It occurred to me for the first time recently that nobody is forcing me to listen to the advertisements in the middle of my favorite podcasts. I mean, there is a handy skip button that will launch you 15 seconds into the future at any given instant and I never thought to use it for that. So now I skip through probably about 2-3 minutes of ads per podcast which saves me about 20-30 minutes of boring listening a week, which is another whole podcast! (If you produce a podcast, please don’t hate me. I just don’t need any bras, snack boxes, or picture frames right now.)

Planning a yellow birthday party

My youngest daughter turns three in March and she is obsessed with the color yellow. So when I asked her what kind of birthday party she wanted she unsurprisingly said a yellow party. Since that’s pretty much the easiest request ever (Barney was the hardest request ever and I had to tell that daughter no because when I looked for Barney party supplies I realized that all that stuff is $1k a pack because it’s ‘vintage’ or whatever), I said ‘Sure thing, sweetie pie’ and created a Pinterest board to facilitate the planning process. And cruising Pinterest is fun.

What things are you loving lately? I want to hear about the little things that are making your life more awesome right now!

  1. I love the yellow party theme! So cute! I’m right with you on the podcast thing. I recently discovered I can speed up audiobooks. It was the most amazing thing ever! And then I realized everyone probably already knew about that.

  2. Oh my goodness, I enjoy reading your posts Jordan, you make me laugh. Your last comment on the podcast ads LOL!!! Great start to my morning.
Love it that you have your own #hashtag.
    Happy Friday.

  3. Ok, well I must live under a rock because I DID NOT KNOW about the ability to skip forward on podcasts. Thank you for dropping that knowledge!

  4. Following hashtags is such a great idea! I will have to start doing that on my Instagram account. I also love the yellow party theme idea. That will be a lot of fun for you to plan and fun for your daughter to celebrate 🙂 I love the long sweater, especially since it has pockets! You can throw it over any tank or shirt for additional warmth and it looks great! I enjoyed reading this post and it inspired me to think about the things that I’m interested in at the moment and that are making me happy. This is a great topic for a blog post as it helps you build more connections with your readers!

  5. I am going to have to start following some hashtags too and I love finds like that sweater at Walmart! I am loving adult paint by numbers 🙂 My husband got me a couple for Christmas and now I want more! They are such a great relaxation tool!!
