East TN Solar Eclipse Viewing Event

Does this post have anything to do with food or books? Not at all. Is it still about something awesome that everyone should totally be interested in? Heck yes! This post is to let all my internet friends know that my family is hosting a 2017 Solar Eclipse viewing event on our farm on August 21st! And you are all invited!

We are seriously excited about this once in a lifetime occurrence, and since we are in a prime viewing area (we will get 2 minutes and 38 seconds of total eclipse time!) and have plenty of open field space, we have decided to open up a portion of the farm for people to park in. Tickets are $25 per car and can be purchased here. There’s also an add-on you can choose if you want us to provide glasses for you as well. We only have about 30 pairs of them left though, so if you think you might want them order quickly!

Here’s where you can order your own glasses.

This is what our location looks like for coordinates and eclipse time.

The details:

We are located in Niota, TN, about 10 minutes off of the interstate. The parking area we have provides a completely unobstructed view (no big buildings or trees). We are going to open up the gate and be there ready to welcome people at 9am, so come keep us company! We will also have a few concessions available and there will be access to at least one porta potty (maybe more if ticket sales are robust enough : ). Bring a lawn chair and some sunscreen and prepare to have a good time! This is going to be a family friendly event though, so no alcohol or other glass containers allowed – we don’t want to pop our tractor tires on your bottle next time we bush hog!

Here’s a tractor eye view from the top of the ridge.

If you are anywhere near us and need a place to view the solar eclipse, get your ticket right now! We would be genuinely thrilled to hang out with you. And if you have any questions you can email niota.eclipse@gmail.com and we’ll be happy to help you out. Hope to see you August 21st!

  1. What a great idea! What a neat way to meet new people. My in-laws live in WY and said they too will have a great view of the eclipse. Unfortunately, our kids are back in school already so we will stay here in GA and hope to catch a quick glimpse.

    • I’m really excited about both the eclipse and the event! We have a few people we know coming, but most of the people who have bought tickets are strangers. Should be fun!

  2. How awesome! I am also in a totality zone here in Idaho and there are so many events going on. All of our hotels are books for miles and they estimated 500,000 people from out of state coming to see the eclipse! Sounds like you guys are gonna have a great time! Enjoy the eclipse!
