A little fiction, a little nonfiction, a little kid lit…this is a pretty good sampling of what I might be reading at any given time.

By Tamera Alexander
I’m about 25% in and am thoroughly enjoying it, just as I do all of Tamera Alexander’s novels. She does a fantastic job with researching the details of her historical characters and settings. This one was just released at the end of January and is the third in the Belmont Mansion series. Having read the other two already, I can say that while that background knowledge makes this story a tad more enjoyable, it would be fine as a standalone novel as well. In fact, I’m liking it enough that I have already determined that my mom will be getting a copy for her Mother’s Day gift this year.
One Thousand White Women: The Journals of May Dodd
By Jim Fergus
This one is my March Book Club assignment. I’m only a couple pages in as of today, but I’m intrigued by the premise (a government supplied mail-order bride for an Indian chief?) and the somewhat non-typical journal format. My hopes are high for this one.
Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring the Fruit of the Spirit
By Beth Moore
This year, as my spiritual goal for 2017, I committed to learning more about the Fruit of the Spirit. I ordered a stack of books that looked edifying, and among them was Living Beyond Yourself. It is a 10 week lesson plan, with each week broken down further into 5 Days. Each day contains a short lesson, along with questions to prompt reflection. This type of format works really well for me and helps me keep on track. I love having things laid out ahead of time so that there is no decision making about what or how much to study in the moment. I think it is actually intended for a group study, but I’m going it alone, hopefully with good results!
Hello, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle
By Betty MacDonald, read by Karen White
This is the first audiobook I have attempted to listen to with my kids and I think it’s going as well as can be expected given the age of the audience (2 and 4). I’m not sure how much they are actually absorbing from it, but does seem to be cutting down on some of the whining and bickering in the car, so there’s that. And I love Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, so I’m enjoying it as well.
That’s what I’m reading right now! For more book discussions and recommendations check out this link up over at Modern Mrs. Darcy, where you’ll find a link to this post as well as many like it from a plethora of other bloggers.
Check out my post from last month to see how March compares to the books I was reading in February.
