Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed
Mo Willems
Disney-Hyperion, 2009
All naked mole rats are naked, right? Wrong! Wilbur challenges the status quo and asks an important questions when facing opposition to his desire to get dressed – why not? His fellow naked mole rats are so concerned by Wilbur’s unusual behavior that they go before their leader, Grand-pah, and petition him to do something about Wilbur. Grand-pah’s response surprises them all, even Wilbur.

First of all, killer title, right? I knew this book was coming home with me the instant I saw it on the library shelf. It’s so cute and witty enough for grown-ups to enjoy too. And it cleverly addresses the idea that it’s ok to not be like everyone else. There’s no real reason for Wilbur not to be able to get dressed if he wants to, and all kinds of reasons (like feeling fancy, funny, or cool) to give clothes a try. I also like the author’s name, but that’s neither here nor there.
Fun book that would be appropriate for ages 2 and up, including adults! I love how you never know what treasures you will find at your local library.
This is one of my kids’ favorite books!
We just recently found it at the library, and then got it again last time we went because they liked it so much!
