We are entering into a new stage of life at my house, a stage where everything is about ballet to my 4 year old daughter. When I say everything, I really do mean everything. Anything she likes gets ballet tagged onto it. She says things like, “Those were delicious ballet pancakes” and “It’s so fun to pet my ballet cat.”
It’s super cute, and I’m also thinking I could use it to my advantage. I wonder if she would respond more positively to “It’s time to do your ballet chores” or “Please eat your ballet broccoli”? I’ll let you know how my little experiment goes.
Hopefully her ballet cravings will be satisfied soon since Dad and I agreed to sign her up for lessons, but in the meantime we have been reading a ton of books about ballerinas. A few we own, a few came from the library, but all of these are favorites right now.

Fancy Nancy: Budding Ballerina
Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid Ballet
Do you have a budding ballerina? What books does she enjoy? Or are you experiencing with a different obsession right now? Let me know in the comments!
no ballerinas here but what a great idea to read some books about your upcoming extra curricular activites!
Yep! You could do the same for sports or music lessons, or just dinosaurs if that’s what your kid is interested in. We read a lot of books about puppies before this 🙂
This is post is SO perfect- my niece just started ballet and she’s obsessed. I”m going to buy all of these for her birthday!! Thanks for posting 🙂
What sweet idea for a birthday gift! I bet she’ll love it.
One of my twins was in love with everything ballerina for awhile as well. So we got her a few Fancy Nancy books and signed her up for classes as well. But after one year, she fell out of love. She still loves Fancy Nancy though.
The Fancy Nancy books are some of my favorites. I love the way they work in vocabulary in such a fun, accessible way.
My kids would love these books, awesome recommendation.
Thanks! Hope they enjoy them!
These are such great suggestions! My girls love to dance, so I will have to check some of these out! They always enjoy getting new books!
Mine too! They always get new books for birthdays and Christmas and sometimes just for fun in between 🙂
These are wonderful suggestions. I love the idea of using books that reinforce a current hobby. It’s such a great way to grow the enthusiasm even more 🙂
I’m hoping it will help her stick with and not get tired of it, plus it’s just fun 🙂
OMG, some of my absolute favorites from when my daughter was little!
Aren’t they great? I know a kids book is good when I enjoy it almost as much as my daughter.
I don’t have any ballerinas but these books look incredibly adorable! Will have to keep in mind as gifts!
That’s a great idea! I love to give books as gifts.
