Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days
Chris Guillebeau
Crown Business, 2017
From the author of The $100 Startup and The Art of Nonconformity, Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days is a must read for anyone who wants to make a little money on the side. This book complements the popular podcast Side Hustle School, hosted by the author, Chris Guillebeau. The mission of the show is to spotlight a successful side hustle each day for a year, making notes of the lessons learned by the hustlers. This book comes along side to further the goal of encouraging aspiring side hustlers by laying out a twenty-seven day plan to help you breakdown the steps of building your own hustle.

The thing I love about Chris Guillebeau’s style both in writing and on the podcast is that he is so laid back but also very honest and practical. Years of experience experimenting with nontraditional methods of earning income lends him credibility and his propensity for puns makes him delightfully entertaining.
If you are subscriber of the podcast you will very likely recognize most of the stories in this book. But the thing that makes the book different from the podcast is that the day by day format condenses all the information previously heard in the podcast episodes into a more cohesive plan. Each chapter/day also includes easy to follow lists and graphics. I love a good list, so that really appealed to me. Getting the information in this format makes it easier to flip back and forth to reread and review concepts as you go.
Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days – available for pre-order now!
Chris Guillebeau’s writing style is very true to his real life voice. I could almost hear him in mind as I was reading. And that’s a good thing, because he is great at taking terms and ideas that sound lofty and explaining them in a way that makes you think, ‘Maybe I can start my own side hustle’. No special software or business degree necessary to figure out projected profits, workflow, or invoice systems. And the book is full of great tools like the Side Hustle Selector to help you evaluate and choose ideas, as well as a ton of online resources readers can check out.
Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days walks you step by step through the process of building a profitable side hustle, from brainstorming to implementation. Full of funny anecdotes and quips (like the Tinder for hustling comparison in Day 6), it is an engaging and informative read for anyone who is ready to think outside the box and reach for the freedom that comes with a side hustle.
The bad new? This book doesn’t come out until September 19, 2017.
The good news? You can pre-order now so that it will arrive in your mailbox or on your Kindle as soon as it becomes available (plus I hear there might be some pre-orders bonuses in the works). If you are a budding entrepreneur, this is one you don’t want to miss!
You can also listen to it (plus another book) for free with a one month Audible trial. It used to be only one free book for the trial, so if you’ve never tried Audible now is the time – who knows how long this extra offer will last! Click the banner below to check it out.
Blogging can be a side hustle, fyi, and so is the cake decorating I do here and there throughout the year. Have you ever experimented with a side hustle? Tell me about it in the comments!
I am really excited about this post. l hadn’t heard of this podcast before, and I am really interested int his idea of the side hustle business. I need to look into both the book and the podcast. Thanks so much for the sneak peak!
No problem, hope you find some great resources!
This would be a great one for me to listen to. I want to know all this information, but have a super hard time with non-fiction. I don’t know what that says about me intellectually, BUT I definitely want to check this out. My husband has read Side Hustle and loved it.
If you have a hard time with nonfiction books the podcast might be a good choice for you. It’s broken down into smaller segments, usually 6 to 10 minutes each, so very small commitment per episode 🙂
How awesome! Super great motivation!
It really is!
Ooooh…. as a business woman, always coming up with new ideas, this book excites me! Loved his $100 startup book! Will definitely purchase!
I really liked it, and if you liked his other one I think you’ll like this one too!
I have a freelance graphic design business that’s kind of gone by the wayside since I’ve been blogging… I need to read this and see if I can turn it into something more!
Yes! I don’t know anything about your business, but it sounds like you might find it helpful.
awesome! I’m excited about this
This is great. I’ll definitely be adding this to my audible queue. It’s the only way I can read books these days.
I have a hard time with audio books, but my husband loves them! He listens to them in the car on his way to and from work.
I’m really interested in this podcast. I am going to have to look him up now. Between teaching, kids, grad school, and blogging, I don’t have time to pick up an actual book (or if I do, I fall asleep in about two seconds), but I’ve been using audible a lot lately and just starting to explore podcasts. Thank you!
The podcast is perfect for if you don’t have a lot of time because the episodes are only about 6-10 minutes each. Easy to listen to on your way to work.
Sounds like a really good book! I’m going to check it out thank you !
Hope it helps you!
This sounds like a book I need to read. Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome, hope you find it helpful!
