The Most Important Women of the Bible: Remarkable Stories of God’s Love and Redemption
Aaron & Elaina Sharp
Bethany House Publishers, 2017
As you might expect from the title, The Most Important Women of the Bible is dedicated to exploring the stories of some of the most and least well-known women in the Bible. There are thirty-one chapters featuring a diverse group of biblical women from Eve to Mary the mother of Jesus, to lowly widows who aren’t even named. Each chapter explores the circumstances of one woman and what we can learn from her faith and actions.

The format of the book – thirty-one short chapters – would make this an ideal choice for a month long women’s Bible study group, or for a month of independent devotions. I like the way that chapters are arranged to include a summary of the story, followed by a deeper dive into how the woman’s life played a role in God’s plan for redemption. The chapters close with sections called ‘By the Numbers’ and ‘Things We Wondered’ which list a few numerical facts and figures and questions about the story that are not directly addressed in the text.
The Most Important Women of the Bible is relatively short, coming in at 207 pages. It was a lovely read, full of encouragement and information, sometimes presented in a way I hadn’t considered before. I learned the most from the stories that focused on lesser known women, the unsung heroines of the Bible. Even the most unlikely of these women played a vital role in God’s plan, proving that He uses those who are willing more often than those who are qualified. The cover of the book is pretty and feminine, and I think it would make a great gift for believing women of all ages.
I was named after Rebekah, the water carrier, from the Bible.
I love that name, and I love it when people spell it the biblical way like yours, instead of Rebecca.
This is such a great review and sounds like such an interesting and inspiring read! I need to save this for gift ideas this year – such a good one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!

Thanks for reading! I plan on purchasing a few more copies for gifts myself 🙂
Now that you mentioned it, I do realized that women are not often brought up in religious discussions.
That hasn’t been my experience. I think men are maybe talked about more, but women are talked about plenty too, at least in my circles.
That’s so interesting! I’ll have to check this out. I’ve never even considered specifically thinking about the women in the Bible. As cliche, as it sounds, my favorite woman would have to be the Virgin Mary. The strength of her faith is beyond amazing, and something that I strive for.
Cliche or not, she is amazing! It’s sounds like you would probably enjoy this book 🙂
Definitely need this book in my life! Absolutely love this quote “He uses those that are willing more often than those who are qualified”.
Aww, thanks I came up with that myself because it describes my own life lol
This was a great post, it is sometimes forgotten how often women are brought up, very cool!
Thanks! It was a great reminder to read through all the times God used women in mighty ways 🙂
