This month’s prompt is ‘a book you chose for it’s cover’. I derived a great deal of pleasure from walking through our local used bookstore, scanning the shelves for something that jumped out at me. There were a couple of contenders, but the ultimate winner was The Most Eligible Bachelor Romance Collection: Nine Historical Novellas Celebrate Marrying for All the Right Reasons.

The first thing that caught my attention was the title. I feel like romances most often focus on the lady in the story so it seems like it might be a nice change of pace to read about the gentlemen this time around. I also liked the font and color of the title, so that helped, as well as the fact that I enjoy anthologies (like this one, for instance).

Once I pulled it off the shelf, seeing the pages sealed the deal. I love the rough edges! It makes me feel like I’m about to read an old journal or something. That little detail gives the book some added character and made me want to take it home, because I’ve never owned a book with pages like that before.

I haven’t even read the first word of it yet, so I’m withholding judgement on whether or not I made a good choice, but I do know I’m excited about it! Even if it’s terrible I still had fun searching for it. If you want to join in the bookish fun check out the reading challenge here, and see if there are any prompts that strike your fancy.

  1. Now this is a challenge that I could get on board with!! Am I allowed to chose the Harry Potter Illustrated editions?! Because those are totally books I would pick out by cover!! Trying to think of the last book I picked simply by cover other than those! Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, I think that is what originally drew me to Sarah Addison Allen’s books and now I have read them all and am anxiously awaiting the next!!

  2. This is such a fun idea, I love it! The cover is so important in a book and sets the tone before we even begin reading. This reading challenge sounds like so much fun!

  3. I set a goal to read (not just through audible, but like actually read) a book a month this year. Your 2018 reading challenge is so fun, I may just have to follow along! Currently, I’m reading “Lagom” and I feel as if it would actually work for this category!

    • That’s a great goal! I would probably do it the opposite direction, since I don’t listen to a lot of audiobooks. I could probably really increase the number of books I finished if embraced listening in addition to reading. Hope you get to jump in on the challenge some this year!

    • That’s great! I hope you get to them this year. I understand, I can’t resist the siren song of free books for Kindle so I have a backlog too.

  4. I chose a book called Big Lake – it’s on the Kindle Top 100 list. Beautiful sunset over a lake — we will see how good it is!

  5. My Dad brought home a stack of books he bought from a customer last week and we split them up. I chose Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand for myself first. The cover is all black and amber soloed, with just an ocean and a single-engine plane in the distance – very mysterious and alluring. I just started it this afternoon. I hope to finish it in a month, per your challenge Jordan!

    • That’s sounds great! I’ve heard good things about that book so can’t wait to hear what you think of it. Congrats on the surprise book haul, those are fun 😉
