September Book Choice – 2018 Reading Challenge

This prompt is a fun one. For the month of September I want you to pick a reading challenge book with your favorite color in the title! I’m really excited about this. It reminds me a little of the first prompt of the year, choosing a book for it’s cover. Choosing based on just a cover or just a title can mean that you don’t necessary know anything about the book going in, which is a great recipe for mixing things up in your reading life.

Now I know you’re all dying to know what my favorite color is, so I won’t keep you in suspense any longer. It’s purple, any and all shades, ranging from pale lavender to a deep royal purple. With that in mind, I’m sure it will surprise exactly none of you that the first book that came to my mind was The Color Purple by Alice Walker.

This is a great American classic that I’ve heard mentioned so many times but never picked up for myself. But now is the time, and I can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about. In case you were wondering if there were any other contenders, I also briefly considered re-reading a book I enjoyed in high school, Riders of the Purple Sage by Zane Grey. While that remains an appealing option, I really do want to expand my horizons by consuming as much important literature as I reasonably can, so The Color Purple it is.

What is your favorite color? Do you have any other great recommendations for ‘purple’?

  1. I love this prompt! I’m having surgery next week and will be out of commission for a few days so I think I will pick a blue. I have been wanting to read an older book by Donald Miller called “Blue Like Jazz” I hear it is pretty incredible.

    • That’s a great choice! I’ve never read a Donald Miller book but I want to. I’ve heard him interviewed several times and he seems like a pretty awesome guy.

  2. I loved The Color Purple and the move as well! My favorite color is Pink right now and I love the challenge as I definitely judge a book by it’s color 🙂 I just didn’t realize it.

    • That’s the only Zane Grey book I’ve ever read…I should probably branch out and try some of his other books since I enjoyed Riders of the Purple Sage.
