Books in Progress: What I’m reading Right Now – November 2018

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week and the year is almost over! It’s been a blur of baking, books, and busyness from start to finish and I expect more of the same for the last month of the year as well. Every month I see what’s looming on my schedule and I think “I guess I’ll only be able to read one or two books this month.”

I’m always (thankfully) wrong. One day I’ll share some of my tips with you for squeezing as much out of your reading life as possible, but for now, suffice it to say ‘where there’s a will there’s a way.’ I always seem to find more time to read than I think I will, and this month has been no exception.

I thought about participating in Nonfiction November for a second, but I just love novels too much and I didn’t feel like exerting the effort to curate a fantastic nonfiction list as this juncture, so you’ll find exactly zero nonfiction titles on the following list. Sorry, not sorry. If you needed permission to just read what you want, I freely grant it to you by the power vested in me by the interwebs, my friends.

Just Finished:

Lonestar Homecoming

Number three in the Lonestar Series I’ve mentioned  before, this book follows Gracie Lister, who flees   with her daughter when she realizes her fiancé is not who he seemed. Aided unexpectedly by single father and veteran Michael Wayne, the two of them soon realize that there is only one way for them to work together the way they need to in order to keep their children safe. Sparks fly and the danger, both physical and emotional, continues to grow as they work to protect themselves and their family. There is one more book in this series, and I’m hoping to get to it before the end of the year so I can start a new series in 2019.

All Is Calm

This is a Christmas novella companion book to the Lonestar Series mentioned above. It’s short, takes place at Christmas time, and has all the heartwarming Texas spirit I enjoy in the other books. You’ll see it again on my 2018 Christmas book list in a few more weeks.

Delirium

Delirium is one of the two books I chose for the reading challenge prompt ‘a book set in the future’. It’s a young adult dystopian novel, and I really enjoyed it. The story follows a teenager named Lena as she discovers that you can’t experience happiness without unhappiness, an illegal thought in a society that physically ‘cures’ it’s citizens of emotion through a routine procedure that is required once a person reaches the age of eighteen. As she approaches her procedure date, Lena meets someone who makes her think that what she’s always been taught about love might not be true.

Books in Progress:

The Passage

This book is my second reading challenge choice for this month. I heard about this book in multiple episodes of the podcast What Should I Read Next? and the premise sounded interesting so I decided to give it a go even though it’s length is somewhat intimidating. I’m about 17% of the way in and it’s very unputdownable. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next! It’s currently my only book in progress because I’m afraid if I don’t focus I won’t be able to finish it before I have to return it to the library.

Up Next:

On Magnolia Lane

This book is so pretty you guys! I’m fairly new to Denise Hunter’s books, but I enjoyed Honeysuckle Dreams, which is in the same series as this book, so I have high hopes for On Magnolia Lane. I’ll let you know what I think of it when I’m done.

The Lieutenant’s Bargain

I am so excited to read this one. It hasn’t gotten here yet, which is probably a good thing because it’s likely that I’ll drop whatever else I’m doing to read it immediately. I love Regina Jennings and the first book in this series, Holding the Fort, was delightful. Hurry up, mailman!

Thanks to Modern Mrs. Darcy for hosting a quick lit link up! Go check her out if you want to see what even more bloggers are reading right now.

What are you reading right now? What is your favorite tip for fitting in more reading time?

  1. Jordan, hi from over at Anne’s! I’ve read more books this year than ever and I think one reason is that I’ve stopped playing endless mindless games on my tablet. I’m kinda thankful it’s stopped working …

    ;-}

    • Hey, thanks for stopping by! I don’t really play games on my phone, but I have been known to fall down the Facebook rabbit hole from time to time 😉 Then I always feel disgusted by the amount of time I could have spent reading instead of scrolling!

  2. Thanks for sharing these reviews, Jordan! I’ve been hearing about Colleen Coble for awhile, but haven’t actually picked one up yet. Sounds like the Christmas book might be a good one to try in the next few weeks.

  3. Hi Jordan! I found you from Anne’s Quick Lit and was happy to see your current reads. Hubby and I have had Kindles since the very first one came out in 2007 and we share a family account between the two of us and our 3 grown daughters. Most of the Kindle books I buy are $2.99 or less and since I’ve been collecting them for 11 years, we have over 2000! Having said that, we have at least 12 Colleen Coble books, but would you believe that I haven’t read a single one of them yet? I want to read the Lavender Tides series – these new ones are at our public library. But I have the full series of the Rock Harbor and Hope Beach series – have you read either of these? I have just Book 1 of the Lonestar series. Amazon often has the first one in a series for cheap or even free, hoping you’ll buy the others full price! Delirium looks interesting! I don’t read much YA or sci-fi or dystopian stuff. If you like Christian historical fiction, I *highly* recommend Cathy Gohlke – all of hers are great, but my absolute favorites are “Saving Amelie” and “Secrets We Kept”. Another favorite Christian historical fiction author is Susan Meissner and my favorites of hers are “A Fall of Marigolds” and “Secrets of a Charmed Life”. And ALL of Lynn Austin’s books are fabulous. My daughters and I have read ALL of the Lynn Austin books, plus the ones by Cathy Gohlke and Susan Meissner. Sharing a Kindle account is a great option that I don’t think too many people take advantage of. You can have your Kindle books on up to 7 devices at one time!

I’ll be checking back here to see what else you’re reading!! Thanks for sharing!

    • I’ve read several of the Lavender Tides books and really enjoyed them, but I haven’t gotten to the Rock Harbor or Hope Beach series yet. I know she has a ton of books, so it might be a little while before I can say I’ve read all of Colleen Coble’s books 🙂 And I absolutely adore historical Christian fiction and haven’t ever read Cathy Gohlke or Susan Meissner – thanks so much for the recommendation!
