I’ve had a lot of fun choosing a book each month to follow the prompts and posting about it for people to comment on. I’m about to clue you in on my last reading challenge choice of the year but first I have a question for you:

Now, back to the main event. The prompt this month is ‘A book you’ve been meaning to read.’
This was an easy one for me, because I ordered this book almost a year and a half ago and it’s been sitting on my shelf begging to be read since then. It has just kept getting moved down the TBR stack in favor of books that had a deadline for review or to be returned to the library, but it’s time has finally come in the last month of the reading challenge. The book I’ve been meaning to read for a while is Consuming Fire, by Kathleen Morgan.

Many of you probably know that I really enjoy historical fiction, but you may not know that I have a particular fascination with Highland historical fiction. Stories set in historic Scotland are endlessly interesting and entertaining to me, and Kathleen Morgan’s Highland books are some of my favorites. I’m already a couple of chapters into Consuming Fire and I am enjoying it just as expected. The history and culture are so rich, and I like reading some of the dialogue with a Scottish brogue. I’m not verra good at it, ye ken, but I still like to try.
And since this is a favorite sub-genre of mine, I’d thought I’d give you a little list of other books set in historic Scotland as a little bonus:
This is my favorite series set in Scotland. I’ve read this series more than once and will probably read it again at some point in my life.
I’ve read the first book in this series and I have the third one on my shelf, so I need to get my hands on the middle one and complete the series soon. Thorn In My Heart was actually my February reading challenge pick!
The Heather Hills of Stonewycke was my very first introduction to this time and place in fiction and I still sometimes think about this heart wrenching but beautiful story of love and loss.
Also by Kathleen Morgan, this book is a standalone novel that I really enjoyed. It’s the story of a noble maiden who must tutor a common man in noble manners in order for him to attempt a daring rescue. Very fun!
I really need to make sure I get into a reading challenge for next year. I just start reading Rachel Hollis “Girl, Wash Your Face” and love it so far.
So far I’ve heard only good things about that book. Still haven’t read it myself though!
