Truth Unchanging: Hearing God Daily in the Midst of Motherhood

I’m always on the lookout for a good devotional. Finding the right one can be a tricky thing sometimes but I’m here to tell you, Truth Unchanging gets a big double thumbs up from me. I found myself looking forward to reading it more than the yearly devotional I carefully chose in December and my only complaint is that it wasn’t longer.

Thanks to Waterbrook & Multnomah for sending me a copy of this book to review. All opinions in this post are my own.
Generally what I look for in devotionals is scripture based teaching that brings encouragement and challenges me to be more. Be more kind, be more prayerful, be more content, be more gracious with myself and others. What I’m not looking for are lessons that have been repeated over and over, trite sayings that don’t reveal any new insight, or sappy, shallow stories that gloss over how hard life can be sometimes.
What I found in Truth Unchanging were personal stories that were a lovely, relevant compliment to the passages of scripture liberally sprinkled throughout. The experiences Becky includes are ones that many of us can probably relate to, which lends credence to her teaching. Each encouraging lesson is short, only about two and half pages, so it can easily be worked into your daily routine.
While Truth Unchanging is marketed specifically to mothers and the stories often reflect that, I think that women without children would benefit from the truth in these pages as well. At the end of every section Becky includes a short, italicized bit of text that reflects what she thinks God is saying through the key passage, followed by a prayer to help put what you’ve learned into practice. I so enjoyed this book and I would recommend Truth Unchanging to women seeking encouragement. It would make an excellent Mother’s Day gift, especially for mom’s who still have kiddos at home.

It’s so great when you find a book you can relate too!
Agreed!
I am not religious, but I’d still check this book out and see if I liked it. I am a mother, after all, so it’s always nice to read things from other mothers.
It’s definitely geared towards moms. If you give it a try, let me know what you think!
Taking a little time each day to connect with God always helps me be a better mother, wife, sister, friend and person. Thanks for the suggestion!
Amen to that, and you’re welcome!
I have another one of Becky Thompson’s books on my nightstand. I will have to add this one to the stack.
I’m so glad I found her and I can’t wait to check out her other books too!
Adding this to my list to read right now! Sounds like such a good book!!
Awesome, hope you enjoy it!
