Books in Progress: What I’m Reading Right Now – June 2019

I’ll just be honest with you here – June hasn’t been a great reading month for me. With three weeks of travel split between a week at the beach with the fam and a fortnight long work trip, we have been keeping the road hot while my reading life has grown cold. I’m expecting my plight to improve somewhat in July, please accept my meager offering of books this month in the meantime.

Just Finished:

The Number of Love

I posted a review of this one last week and had nothing but good things to say. The main character in this novel is a smart, sarcastic girl named Margot who happens to have a savant-like affinity for math and numbers. She works as a codebreaker for the government in WWI England and there is just the right amount of nonconventional romance and action to keep you turning the pages.

The Road to Paradise

Wealthy debutante Margie is passionate about nature and Mt. Rainer Park, so when she gets the opportunity to spend the summer working at the park she’s overjoyed. Ranger Ford Brayden isn’t as excited at the prospect of having to babysit a girl with no outdoor experience, but Margie’s exuberance and willing, optimistic nature soon change his perspective on her and the park he’s spent his life in. This book gives you a fascinating look at a national park in it’s infancy in 1927. I can’t wait to read the rest of the Vintage National Parks series, starting with Ever Faithful.

In Progress:

The Prince: A Selection Novella

You all knew I couldn’t go a month without somehow mentioning The Selection Series. I just started this little novella featuring Prince Maxon’s point of view, and I expect I’ll probably finish pretty quickly. This is one of those series that I wish could go on infinitely. If the Bachelor franchise and Grey’s Anatomy can, why not the Selection?

Ever Faithful

Another book in the Vintage National Parks series, Ever Faithful is about a young man who gets hired by the park service by fudging certain education qualifications – namely, the ability to read. Elsie discovers his secret and tutors him, which naturally leads to something more. I skipped over the middle book in this series, but they can easily be read out of order, and since I had a review copy of Ever Faithful in hand I really didn’t want to wait on the other book.

Up Next:

Atomic Habits

I’ve been on the wait list for this wildly popular (it’s #15 on the Amazon charts as I write this) book for a long time, and my hold finally came in! I love reading about habits and behavior and Atomic Habits has been highly recommended across all forms of media I consume, so here’s hoping it lives up to the hype.

No Ocean Too Wide

To be honest, I’m a little scared of this book because it’s about orphans and I see the potential for big sad emotions. I don’t like to be sad! Hopefully I won’t get my heart ripped out – I’ll let you know in a few weeks!

Thanks to Modern Mrs. Darcy for hosting a quick lit link up! Go check her out if you want to see what even more bloggers are reading right now.

  1. I’ve heard really good things about Atomic Habits and as a therapist, I’m really curious to read this one! I’d love to hear what your thoughts are when you finish!

    • So far it’s really interesting. The thing that has stuck out to me the most is his assertion that goals are not as important as systems, stating that ‘Winners and losers have the same goals’.
