Fall is here! Fall is here! While there are great things about reading in every season, I think we can all agree that the cooler weather of fall/winter feels especially conducive to falling into a great novel. There’s something extra attractive about curling up under a blanket to read, preferably with a hot drink in your hand.
Another thing about fall reading (at least for me) is that everything I read starting around October automatically gets considered as a possible gift. Is there someone in my life who needs to read this story? Is it really good enough to gift? Those are the questions I start to ask as we approach the holidays, because we all know books make the best gifts. And most often the answer to those questions is ‘yes’.

Just Finished:
This book is saaaad, you guys. I put off reading it for a long time because I thought it sounded heartbreaking, and guess what? I was right. Is the story fascinating? Certainly. Is the writing beautiful? Most definitely. But this pretty much fulfills my ‘sad books quota’ for 2020. I will say, the ending was fairly hopeful, but on the whole I prefer happier, more upbeat stories. Except when I fall down a dystopian rabbit hole, which happens from time to time.
I’ve been really into royal romances here lately and Princess Ever After really scratches that itch. It’s about Regina “Reggie” Beswick, a Tallahassee girl who finds out that she is actually a princess in line for the throne of a struggling European duchy. It’s fun and funny and totally unrealistic, but just real enough to make it seem like it maybe could actually happen.
In Progress:
I have loved every Susan May Warren book that I’ve ever read so I was excited to pick this one up. I’m 50 pages in, and it looks like this book will contain all the romance and fast-paced action that I enjoy in her stories. Plus she name drops from all her other series too, so if you have read multiples then those are fun little Easter eggs.
If you aren’t familiar with the Certified Pastry Aficionado website then you need to go there as soon as you finish here. Her recipes are amazing and I looooove her first cookbook Pastry for Beginners (it’s my most used cookbook), so I was thrilled to get a chance to look through an early review copy of Entertaining Made Easy. It’s filled more great recipes and practical tips to help you plan and execute a variety of common gatherings. I have plans to start testing out some of these recipes in the next few days.
Up Next:
It’s been a while since I’ve read a Ted Dekker novel, and since I just read my first Rachelle Dekker book a few weeks ago I decided I’m going to give this a try as soon as I finish my current ebook (a Christmas one that I’m not sharing just yet). Hopefully it will be suspenseful but not too scary. I think it’s about a cult in the hills of TN that don’t ever leave the area designated by the red rope, but I think there may also be some mystical elements as well.
This is a love story set against the backdrop of a bakery. Be still my heart. It’s like this author looked into my soul and wrote a book to satisfy everything she saw there. Here’s hoping it lives up to my not insignificant expectations.
I recently found out that my mother-in-law has been reading this series too, so when she offered to preorder Autumn Skies and let me borrow it after she finished I almost cheered out loud. I love Denise Hunter and all her sweet romances, and I think this is going to be a great ending to the Bluebell Inn series.
I’ve been waiting on the library to purchase this book for FOREVER and it’s finally about to be my turn! Because let’s be honest, Jordan sometimes struggles with overthinking things. If this book can help me reduce my overthinking by even like 5% then it will be worth reading it.

I have Before We Were Yours on my tbr. It sounds like it is what I expect it to be, just be a sad book that would give me feels.
You are so sweet to mention your mother-in-law in your post. I do enjoy reading Denise Hunter also. As for Before We Were Yours, I think it is a very sad book. Just to think stuff like that truly happened and still does today. The book made have a different look on things, if you know what I mean.
