S’mores and Summer Books to Read

Hello readers of Read. Eat. Repeat! I am Isaly, the owner of the stationery store The Seasonal Pages and I am guest blogging to tell you about a few Summer books that I think you will love for this Summer season. June is officially here and you know what that means, it is the beginning month of Summer season. I decided to create a list of books that will fit a summer mood while also creating s’mores that are the perfect dessert for summer time.

s'mores

This post contains affiliate links, which means I might make some extra coffee money at no extra expense to you if you buy something through one of my links. Read more about that here.

Today we will be making s’mores and these are the ingredients you will need:

  • Graham crackers
  • Chocolate pieces like a chocolate bar
  • Medium-large size marshmallows

Items for cooking:

  • A baking sheet or broiling pan
  • Foil

Directions: You will be using an oven on broil for indoor s’mores. Turn on the oven to the broil option. Lay out your graham crackers, place the chocolate on the graham crackers, then a marshmallow on top of the chocolate piece then place the graham crackers in the oven for 2-3 minutes. You can get fancy and add other types of chocolate such as reese cups, mini chocolate chips, etc.

While those are in the oven, read this summer book release that I cannot wait to read:

Title: Instructions For Dancing
Author: Nicola Yoon
Genre: Romance
Release: June 1, 2021

Synopsis: “Evie Thomas doesn’t believe in love anymore. Especially after the strangest thing occurs one otherwise ordinary afternoon: She witnesses a couple kiss and is overcome with a vision of how their romance began . . . and how it will end. After all, even the greatest love stories end with a broken heart, eventually.

As Evie tries to understand why this is happening, she finds herself at La Brea Dance Studio, learning to waltz, fox-trot, and tango with a boy named X. X is everything that Evie is not: adventurous, passionate, daring. His philosophy is to say yes to everything–including entering a ballroom dance competition with a girl he’s only just met.”

Nicole Yoon is an author I am very familiar with between her books Everything, Everything and The Sun Is Also A Star — I had to add her newest book Instructions For Dancing. This romance novel will be great for a summer read and put you in a romance mood.

Your s’mores should be done by now and now lastly, add your graham cracker for the top of your s’mores.

Enjoy this delicious dessert along with these two other summer reads:

Title: You & Me at the End of the World
Author: Brianna Bourne
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release: July 20, 2021

Synopsis: “This is no ordinary apocalypse…

Hannah Ashton wakes up to silence. The entire city around her is empty, except for one other person: Leo Sterling. Leo might be hottest boy ever (and not just because he’s the only one left), but he’s also too charming, too selfish, and too much of a disaster for his own good, let alone Hannah’s.

Stuck with only each other, they explore a world with no parents, no friends, and no school and realize that they can be themselves instead of playing the parts everyone expects of them. Hannah doesn’t have to be just an overachieving, music-box-perfect ballerina, and Leo can be more than a slacker, 80s-glam-metal-obsessed guitarist. Leo is a burst of honesty and fun that draws Hannah out, and Hannah’s got Leo thinking about someone other than himself for the first time.

Together, they search for answers amid crushing isolation. But while their empty world may appear harmless . . . it’s not. Because nothing is quite as it seems, and if Hannah and Leo don’t figure out what’s going on, they might just be torn apart forever.”

You & Me at the End of the World seems so different from the normal books I have read about the end of the world because usually it’s a group of people — not two. So, I am very excited to see how Hannah and Leo live in such a chaotic world. This apocalyptic book sounds great for your summer reading.

Are you enjoying your s’mores?

Title: This Poison Heart
Author: Kalynn Bayron
Genre: YA Fantasy
Release: June 29, 2021

Synopsis: “Briseis has a gift: she can grow plants from tiny seeds to rich blooms with a single touch.

When Briseis’s aunt dies and wills her a dilapidated estate in rural New York, Bri and her parents decide to leave Brooklyn behind for the summer. Hopefully there, surrounded by plants and flowers, Bri will finally learn to control her gift. But their new home is sinister in ways they could never have imagined–it comes with a specific set of instructions, an old-school apothecary, and a walled garden filled with the deadliest botanicals in the world that can only be entered by those who share Bri’s unique family lineage.

When strangers begin to arrive on their doorstep, asking for tinctures and elixirs, Bri learns she has a surprising talent for creating them. One of the visitors is Marie, a mysterious young woman who Bri befriends, only to find that Marie is keeping dark secrets about the history of the estate and its surrounding community. There is more to Bri’s sudden inheritance than she could have imagined, and she is determined to uncover it . . . until a nefarious group comes after her in search of a rare and dangerous immortality elixir. Up against a centuries-old curse and the deadliest plant on earth, Bri must harness her gift to protect herself and her family.”

Doesn’t this sound interesting? A woman that has a magical power to make plants grow. This fantasy book is a great book for summer because it sounds like magic and plants. I can’t wait to read this during the summer time.
