Cold weather is generally accepted as the perfect time to enjoy our favorite comfort foods, and for many people, soup is comforting! It’s also usually a pretty easy way to feed your crowd and makes for some good leftover lunches.

If you want something new to try this soup season, I hope you’ll consider giving one of these five recipes a shot! I have also included recipes for a few bread options to complement your soup choice (where I come from, you can’t have soup without bread!). And make sure to read all the way to the end for a bonus recipe that is soup-adjacent.

Creamy Wild Rice Soup

This soup is so hearty and delicious. We like to pair it with this brown bread that is a copycat of the bread they serve at Outback restaurants while you wait for your meal.

Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Broccoli Cheddar is probably my husband’s favorite of all recipes in our soup rotation. This one goes great with yeast rolls. I either make No-Knead Yeast Rolls or the sweet roll recipe from the Pastry for Beginners cookbook (this is probably my most used cookbook).

Creamy Italian Soup

If there’s one thing that’s equally as comforting as soup it’s probably pasta, so why not combine them? This soup is pretty thick, so add extra broth if you like your soup soupier. Sourdough bread is a great choice to go with this one or you can pick up a loaf of Italian bread from your local grocery store to make things easier.

Potato Soup

A good bowl of potato soup is a classic, no? Garnish with cheese, sour cream, and/or bacon bits for some extra goodness. I always make a batch of Garlic Cheddar Biscuits to go with this soup.

Creamy Chicken Fajita Soup

Enjoy a little southwest flavor! Garnish this soup with a sprinkle of cheese, a dollop of sour cream, or a few slices of avocado. I usually serve this with scoop-shaped tortilla chips, or sometimes with slices of cheese quesadilla.

Soup-Adjacent Bonus: Four Bean Chili!

I don’t know if everyone would classify this as a soup, but I think it at least fits in the same general category and this recipe is amazing, so I’m including it! I actually won a church chili cookoff with this recipe, so it’s been objectively endorsed. Serve with cornbread or tortilla chips.
