We’ve reached the ‘ber’ months, which means that cozy reading season can officially begin! Not one person should be at all surprised to see me under a blanket with a book and a hot beverage at this time of year—even if the high is still 85 degrees some days.
I generally read widely all year and don’t plan my reading based on seasons, but one thing that does change for me around September is that I start reading Christmas-themed books in preparation for my yearly holiday book list that will come out mid/late November. I don’t include those in these posts because not all of them will make it on the list, and I don’t want to spoil anything for later (although I do include the covers in my monthly wrap-up on Instagram), so if the list seems light for the next two or three months, that’s probably why. That and the fact that I’m still in the midst of one of the busiest life seasons I can remember. It’s mostly good things, but it cuts into my reading time nonetheless.
Oh, and also, I released a book last week, so that took up some time and brainspace too. If you’re into sweet, clean romantic comedies, I hope you’ll check out Evangeline Wilder Is Still Single!
But despite all that, I do have some good books to share with you today. Let’s get started!

Just Finished:
It’s official, I am a Becca Kinzer fan girl. Her books always hit the spot for me with her sweet but sassy characters and hysterical sense of humor. Her stories are full of real-life hard things handled by realistic people who sometimes don’t react how they should, and sometimes say the awkward thing that we were all thinking anyway. This is a fake-dating story about two people who pose as a couple in order to be eligible for a 500 mile tandem bike ride that comes with a $250,000 prize. Hijinks ensue as everything that can go wrong does, but they also grow closer and learn new things in ways they never could have expected along the way.
Humple Pi: When Math Goes Wrong in the Real World
This book is equal parts alarming and hilarious. I listened to the audiobook which is read by the author, and I liked it this way because he has a cool accent and an awesome sense of humor that really comes through in the inflections and side notes as he’s reading. It’s essentially about how much math matters in basically every area of life, and provides copious examples of individuals and businesses who really got their math wrong, with dire or comical consequences. Some parts of it are a smidge technical for people like me who respect but can’t do math, but overall I found it to be very readable.
In Progress:
This is a new to me author, and a fake-dating enemies to lovers story about two people who have the opposite of a meet cute, but eventually decide to temporarily pretend to be in a relationship for reasons unique to each of them. The banter between Noli and Collin is fun, and I like Collin’s protective nature, so hopefully the rest of the book will be good and I can give it all the stars when I finish.
I think I may be the last YA romantasy reader to jump on this bandwagon, but here I am! I can see why this book is so popular with the propulsive plot and intesting but not overly complicated magical system. I’m a sucker for books where people have abilities, and this one also has a Hunger Games-esque competition where the main characters have to fight against each other while also fighting against their feelings for each other. We’ll see how it goes, but if I had to guess right now at 50% in, I think I’ll probably be giving this one five stars and reading on in the trilogy.
Up Next:
The Bitter End Birding Society
I couldn’t believe my luck in getting approved for a NetGalley copy of this book! I’ve read one other book by Amanda Cox and it made it on my top ten list for that year, so fingers crossed I don’t have unreasonably high expectations for this one. When Ana goes to Bitter End, Tennessee to help her great aunt, she never expects to meet a group of bird watchers who will change everything for her. I think this is a dual-timeline novel, which is one of my favorite things, and I’m excited to read it!
This feels like the perfect time of year to read this book, and since I love Jen Atkinson’s sense of humor and sweet romances, I decided to pick it up next! This is a small town, second chance, forced proximity story about two people with a complicated history who end up working closely together at a Christmas tree farm. Sign me up!
