Generally I make it a habit not to ‘drink my calories’, meaning that I don’t really drink very much soda, juice, milk, etc. What I do have a hard time passing up is coffee and tea, particularly coffee drinks with lots of yummy flavors, like this cookies & cream frappe!
Frappes are such a lovely treat, especially when it’s hot, and they’re really pretty easy to make. It’s basically just ice, coffee, milk/cream/half & half, sugar, and flavor blended up to smooth, refreshing perfection. You can use whatever flavors you want, not just cookies & cream! I love to make salted caramel, chocolate hazelnut, and amaretto frappes, too.
One thing I will say about making frappes at home is that it really helps to have a good blender. I have a Ninja Auto IQ blender (affiliate link) and I make frappes (and other cold drinks like milkshakes and smoothies) in the blender cups that came with it. If you aren’t satisfied with your current blending situation I highly recommend this blender — we use it almost every single day and it’s just the best. A quality blender makes all the difference with frappes because nothing kills your caffeine buzz like big ice chunks when it’s supposed to be delightfully smooth.
Other cold coffee drinks to love:
In terms of consistency, I like my frappes leaning towards the thinner side so they are easier to drink, but if you like yours a bit thicker just add a little more ice. This recipe also calls for a couple of whole cookies, so make sure you’ve blended thoroughly if you plan to drink it with a straw so nothing gets stuck and slows your sipping momentum.
And as for sweetness, my personal preference is just regular sugar, and I do like my frappes pretty sweet (that’s probably to be expected of a cookies & cream frappe though). If you prefer natural sweetness like honey, agave, or maple syrup, feel free to make that swap. Just keep in mind that the measurements might not be the same if you sub in a different ingredient with different qualities, so you might have to play with it to get it just right.
A final note about serving size: This recipe is good for one large serving or two smaller ones. Nobody else in my house drinks coffee so what I like to do is just put it in a big insulated cup and sip on it all afternoon.
- 1 1/2 c ice cubes
- 3/4 c chilled coffee
- 3/4 c milk, cream, or half & half
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2-3 tbsp chocolate syrup
- 2 chocolate sandwich cookies
- Optional: Whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and cookie crumbs for garnish
-
Add all ingredients to a blender in the order listed and blend until smooth. Garnish with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, or extra cookie crumbs if desired, and enjoy immediately.
I have major sweet cravings lately so this sounds AMAZING RIGHT NOW!
Give it a tray!
Ooo I know I’d love this. I need to make one this weekend.
I hope you enjoy it!
This is my kind of frappe. Lots of chocolate and lots of cookie chunks!
Right?!
Hi! Have you ever tried this with almond milk? I wonder if it would blend the same? I might be trying it tomorrow! 🤞
I haven’t tried it with almond milk. I’d say you can probably use it, but I can’t say for sure 🙂
