Total Time 7 hours

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water
  • 3 cups unbleached flour
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a large bowl and stir until combined. Knead for 3 minutes, sprinkling in more flour as needed to keep it from sticking to your hands and the counter.

  2. Press the kneaded dough into a greased loaf pan, cover it with a towel, and let it rise until at least doubled (typically 6-8 hours).

  3. Place into a cold oven and set the temperature for 350°. Bake for 50-55 minutes, until golden brown.

Recipe Notes

  1. Using unbleached flour is essential.
  2. I use a glass 9x5 inch loaf pan for this recipe.
  3. You can bake the bread before it has doubled in size, but it will be very dense. The bigger you let it grow, the better the texture will be.
