What I’m Loving Lately – October 2018

Hold on just a cotton-picking minute, how in the world is November only days away? I guess time really does fly when you’re having fun, because the last two months have sped by like a race car, in a blur of activities and events. There have been so many wonderfully amazing things going on that it was hard to narrow down my picks for this post, especially since I didn’t get around to telling you what I was loving in September. Now I have two months worth of greatness to choose from! Guess I’d better get started…

I got to go to Las Vegas!

And that was pretty fun. My husband and I aren’t much for bars or casinos, but we still had a great time. We were there for a work trip, so around convention presentations and such we managed to go to the Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon (pictured above), the Body Museum, and a Cirque du Soleil show. It should go without saying that we also ate at some great restaurants, like Black Tap and the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. Also, plane rides are great for reading and I read about two whole books in 4 days even with all that other stuff going on.

Giant Begonia

I love plants, but most of them don’t love me. Receiving a plant gift delights me, but they rarely make it long despite my tender care. But this begonia that I got for Mother’s Day – wow! I planted it beside my step (thinking nature might have more luck than me) and it pretty much just laid low all summer. I hoped it would make it but wasn’t counting on anything, but then the weather turned cooler and BAM! Gorgeous orange flowers all over this little plant.

Rokform Crystal Series Phone Case

This thing is so neat! It’s a low profile case with a magnet on the back that will stick to anything made of metal. I stick it on the microwave above my stove to more easily read recipes while I’m cooking, on the outside of my car when I need to help a kiddo in or out and don’t have a pocket handy, and on the handy car mount that came with it. It’s so cool! My husband and I both got the clear one.

New Babies!

All of my best friends have either had their first baby in the last few months or are currently pregnant. On top of that, one of my sisters (I have 4) made me an aunt last month! I’m crazy about all these precious babies! It’s so fun to visit and play and cuddle with them and then hand them back when they start to fuss. New nephew pictured above – isn’t he sweet?

Brogato

Did you know that pouring espresso over gelato is a thing? Well, it sure is, and it is heavenly. I posted a picture on Instagram last month of the brogato I got from Gelato Brothers, and I’m making the commitment here and now that anytime I am near them again I will get me another brogato.

Deep Work

I know, I know, everybody else read this years ago. But seriously, I just finished this book and I was so inspired. I’m working to incorporate deep work into my life using some of the strategies in the book and I can’t wait to see the results. Stay tuned for updates! I think this idea has the potential to revolutionize my work and I also really like the sound of eliminating a lot of the shallow things that plague my days.

What things are you loving these days?

    • It’s very helpful for that! I like to stick it to the partitions in bathroom stalls when I don’t have a pocket instead of setting it down somewhere gross (the walls are probably still gross but I feel like its the better alternative).
